Refugees are valuable resources to the American multicultural society. KHRW provides refugees with services and assistance for overcoming obstacles in achieving smooth transition into their new lives in America. KHRW's programs assist refugees and immigrants achieve self-sufficiency and deal with major issues facing them in their day-to-day life in their new homeland, the United States of America. Most of these programs are targeted towards families achieving self-sufficiency and smooth integration into mainstream society.

 
Social Adjustment

Connect refugees and services providers. Assist clients with applications, such as Green Cards and work permit renewals. Provide transportation and volunteers to job interviews and medical appointments to homebound women and elderly.

 
Orientations

Orientations about American Culture and life skills.

 
Women & Family Issues

Cultural awareness and conflict resolution on legal issue, child protection, parenting skills & domestic violence education, awareness and prevention.

 
English as a Second Language & Literacy

English language, Vocational English and citizenship classes.

 
Youth Issues

Activities and program for "at risk" youth community acceptance among youth from different ethnic backgrounds.

 
Mentorship Programs

Linking refugees with volunteers and programs that provide guidance and support.

 
Translation & Interpretation

Translating Legal, Immigration, Education, and Medical documents from Arabic and Kurdish to English. Providing one to one and mobile interpretation.

 
Employment counseling

Job training and job placement referrals and resume preparation.

 
Immigration

Counseling, referrals to pro-bono and low cost legal services, preparations for adjustment, naturalization, and family reunification.

 
Housing

Referral to help refugees find affordable housing.

 
Health & Nutrition Referrals

Inform refugees of health & nutritional services that are available in the community. Assist newcomers access services and how to use them effectively, especially for mothers, infants & children.  Emphasis the importance of prenatal care, potential health hazards and early detection.

KHRW Nashville foundation and history:

KHRW opened its doors to the community in January 1999 in Nashville, Tennessee. KHRW Services are provided to the community through culturally and linguistically appropriate services by bilingual staff. The main objective of KHRW is to provide self-sufficiency services that fills an unmet need and a gap in culturally and linguistically appropriate services to the refugee community. Many people from our community are coming to the office for various services for the first time in the history of the community in Nashville, Tennessee. The goals of the Advisory Committee, the National KHRW office, and the Nashville KHRW office is to build bridges to the 21 century together with the mainstream community in Nashville, Tennessee. Refugees are not helpless individuals but rather strong human beings who have overcome great hardships at greater personal loses to realizing the American dream in their new homeland in the US.

 
Employment Services:

KHRW provides employment referral and placements for newcomers.

 
Orientations:

Technical assistance and guidance is provided by the Executive Director and Program Developer of Kurdish Human Rights Watch, Inc. national headquarters. An Advisory Committee was formed by members of the community who meet on a regular basis and make contributions and envision main objectives of the KHRW Nashville office. The Nashville Advisory Committee is like a steering committee to the KHRW Nashville office.

Orientation and life skills training is provided to members of the community and to newcomers, youth, women and children.

Vocational English as a Second Language( VESL):

Referral to mainstream services, due to shortage of funding KHRW can not provide English and VESL classes on site.
